Lawyer Biographies
Franz Galla – Austria
Franz Galla is Founding Partner of Galla & Herget, a firm based in Vienna. He has over 15 years experience and specialises in commercial law, in particular in the law on intellectual property and information technology.
Franz was born in Vienna in 1966 and educated at the University of Vienna in the Faculty of Law, and received a Master of Laws in 1991. He was admitted to the Austrian Bar in 1997. Franz has published books and articles on his areas of expertise, including the law of domain-names and aspects of Public Sector Information (PSI).
Peter Weinand – United Kingdom
Peter trained at Farrer & Co based in London, and qualified in 1988; he was made a Partner in 1995. He is head of the Intellectual Property & Commercial team and Higher Education Group, and is also a member of the Media and Museums Groups. A copyright lawyer by training, he specialises in publishing, information, IT and brand licensing and protection.
Peter is an Expert Member and Deputy Chair of the Advisory Panel on Public Sector Information (APPSI), which advises Ministers on how to open up opportunities in the information industry for greater re-use of Government information. He also has considerable experience of lobbying and was involved in the passage of the Directive 2003/98/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 November 2003 on the re-use of public sector information.
Wolter Wefers Bettink – The Netherlands
Wolter is a Partner at Houthoff Buruma based in Amsterdam, and specialises in Intellectual Property, Information & Communications Technology, E-Commerce and Data Protection. As an IP litigator, he has represented clients in trademark, copyright, database and patent cases. Recently, he successfully defended Landmark Group in a landmark case on database protection of government data.
Wolter assists clients with complex IT projects, including the outsourcing of IT and business processes. He has worked on a variety of Internet related matters including IP and contract formation, and is also a specialist in data protection issues, both under the EC Data Protection Directive and national privacy legislation. He is currently President of TechLaw, an international group of law firms with a focus on technology-related law.
Guy Lambot – France
Having taken the oath in PARIS in 1993, Guy Lambot created his own law firm in 1996. A graduate of the NANTES and PARIS II PANTHEON-ASSAS law faculties, he holds a Masters in private law and a DEA (postgraduate certificate) in literary, artistic and industrial property. His activity is centred, first and foremost, on training, consultancy and litigation concerning intellectual property and communication law.
After tackling issues linked to the circulation of public data on behalf of his clients, he participated very actively in the work of the French Industry and Information Group (Groupement Français de l’Industrie de l’Information - G.F.I.I), within an inter-association “Public Data” workgroup. He was also one of the G.F.I.I representatives in the “Legal and technical instruments” workgroup on specialised training for “Access to and valuing of public data” within the Guidance Council for Public Editing and Administrative Information (C.O.E.P.I.A).
