PSI Alliance calls for reform of market access rules
13th June 2008
Press release:
The PSI Alliance first Annual Conference took place in Brussels on 12th June 2008. The conference was well attended signaling widespread interested from companies, associations and public administrations from across Europe.
Speakers from the European Commission, the European Parliament and the PSI industry underlined that barriers to market access were undermining the enormous development potential of innovative services based on re-use of public sector information (PSI). The Alliance calls on the Commission to strengthen the Directive and urges governments around Europe to take measures to free up this industry and help it deliver growth and jobs.
The PSI Alliance’s newly elected Chairperson, Rolf Nordqvist, welcomed the conclusions of the conference:
“PSI producers are state-owned and responsible only to politicians. It is difficult for SMEs active in the market bite the hand that feeds them, and political action is needed to breed dynamism in the sector. Only political decision-makers can enforce change, and this is where the PSI Alliance comes in. We need a strong, pan-European industry action group to push for change of the PSI marketplace and realise its true potential.”
